A study at “A. Gemelli” Hospital, Rome, tested the Acuson Freestyle, a wireless ultrasound device with a linear transducer for guiding venous access device placements. In 38 procedures, the device was used for puncturing and cannulating various veins, detecting guidewire and catheter misplacements, and ruling out pneumothorax. All procedures were successful with excellent image quality, no transmission delays, and increased maneuverability due to the wireless design. The wireless system provided flexibility, ease of use, and improved infection control compliance.
