Summary
This systematic review assessed the accuracy of first-trimester ultrasound examinations in detecting major congenital heart disease (CHD).
The study included ten relevant articles involving 1,243 patients. The pooled sensitivity of first-trimester ultrasound for detecting major CHD was 85%, and the specificity was 99%.
The conclusion suggests that ultrasound examination during the first trimester is feasible and accurate for detecting major CHD. It may be considered for women at high risk of having children with CHD.
