The AFSUMB consensus statements on contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) using Sonazoid provide comprehensive guidelines tailored to Asian practices. These recommendations, initiated by the Korean Society of Ultrasound in Medicine in collaboration with the Japanese Society of Ultrasound in Medicine and the Chinese Taipei Society of Ultrasound in Medicine, address the increasing use of Sonazoid for hepatic and pancreatobiliary applications. Recognizing the growing adoption of ultrasound contrast agents (UCAs) across Asian countries such as Japan, Korea, Taiwan, and China, these guidelines aim to establish standardized protocols for Sonazoid administration and imaging. The document builds on the foundational CEUS guidelines from 2004, which focused on liver applications, and subsequent updates that expanded to include additional organs and advancements in imaging.

However, this is the first set of recommendations dedicated to Sonazoid, reflecting the need for specialized guidance based on clinical experiences unique to Asia. These guidelines, developed through rigorous collaboration among 23 experts and representatives, outline best practices for patient management, imaging protocols, and diagnostic applications of Sonazoid. By addressing specific needs in hepatobiliary and pancreatobiliary CEUS, the recommendations seek to enhance diagnostic accuracy, improve patient outcomes, and promote the safe and effective use of Sonazoid in routine clinical practice.
