Early Ultrasound for Diagnosing Testicular Injury in Penetrating Scrotal Trauma

This study assessed the effectiveness of scrotal ultrasound (SUS) in diagnosing testicular injuries from penetrating scrotal trauma. Analyzing 84 patients, the study found SUS to have high sensitivity (96%) and specificity (86%). Out of 24 patients with suspected injuries, 21 were confirmed during surgery. These findings suggest that SUS can effectively identify testicular injuries, helping to triage patients and potentially reduce unnecessary surgical explorations.
