Summary
The Sassari Prehospital Emergency Ultrasound Project (SA-PEU Project) in Italy aimed to assess the implementation of Prehospital Emergency Ultrasound (PEU) through a one-day seminar and collaboration with an expert center.
The Sassari EMS partnered with the successful Siena EMS, acquiring six prehospital ultrasound machines. A theoretical and hands-on simulated case-based seminar was conducted for EMS physicians, followed by self-tutorial videos and a continuous training plan. A questionnaire evaluated participants’ perceptions of the seminar and PEU strategy. Results indicated a positive reception, with 94% positive evaluation of the seminar, 90% appreciation for collaboration with the experienced EMS center, and high percentages acknowledging the applicability and usefulness of PEU in emergency care.
The study suggests that a one-day seminar, collaboration with an experienced center, and a practical focus on PEU application are beneficial for implementation. Ongoing evaluation will assess clinical outcomes.
