LUNG ULTRASOUND PROTOCOLS FOR COVID-19: IDEAL PROTOCOL?

This study evaluates the impact and accuracy of different lung ultrasonography (LUS) protocols for COVID-19. Using a standard sequence of LUS scans across 72 intercostal spaces in 32 patients, the findings were scored and compared with a validated Pulmonary Inflammation Index (PII) on chest CT. The most common patterns observed were ground-glass opacities and subpleural consolidations, primarily in posteroinferior areas. The study found a significant correlation with CT, particularly with the 12-zone LUS protocol, which showed the highest interclass correlation coefficient (ICC). The study emphasizes the need for standardized LUS protocols to improve COVID-19 patient management.
