PORTAL VENOUS GAS DETECTED BY ULTRASOUND EXAMINATION IN EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT IN A PATIENT WITH ACUTE ABDOMINAL PAIN

An 82-year-old woman with abdominal pain was diagnosed with intestinal pneumatosis (IP) and intestinal ischemia (II) using bedside ultrasound (US) performed by an emergency physician (EP). The ultrasound revealed echogenic images in the portal vein, which led to a CT scan that confirmed the diagnosis. While CT is the gold standard for diagnosing II, bedside ultrasound by EPs offers a quick, effective, and safer alternative, reducing service times and enhancing patient safety in emergency settings.
