SMI AND ELASTOSONOGRAPHY FOR THYROID NODULES: REAL-TIME VALUE

In this study, thyroid nodules were assessed using B-mode and color-flow Doppler imaging according to TI-RADS classification. Researchers evaluated the additional value of Superb microvascular imaging (SMI) and elastosonography in predicting malignancy risk. They found that while SMI and elastosonography individually had limited predictive power (AUC of 0.57 and 0.58 respectively), their combination slightly increased the AUC to 0.62. When combined with TI-RADS, the AUC improved further to 0.69, suggesting a modest enhancement in stratifying malignancy risk compared to TI-RADS alone in clinical practice.
