AN OVERVIEW ON MALE GENITAL TRACT ULTRASOUND REFERENCE RANGES

Summary

This journal abstract discusses the standardization of male genital tract color-Doppler ultrasound (MGT-CDUS) and presents the results of a study conducted by the European Academy of Andrology (EAA) to establish normative parameters for healthy-fertile men (HFM). The objectives of the study were threefold: (i) to outline the standard operating procedures (SOPs) for assessing MGT-CDUS, (ii) to report the main normative parameters for MGT-CDUS, and (iii) to compare the EAA’s findings with previously published “normal” CDUS values.

The study involved a cohort of 248 healthy-fertile men, and MGT-CDUS was evaluated both before and after ejaculation following the established SOPs. The abstract summarizes the SOPs used for MGT-CDUS assessment, which includes scrotal CDUS and transrectal ultrasound. Key reference ranges and characteristics for various aspects of the male genital tract, including testicular, epididymal, prostate, seminal vesicle, and deferential ampullas measurements, are reported. The study also addresses the detection of CDUS-varicocele in approximately 37% of the men.

The findings of this study provide important normative parameters for MGT-CDUS in healthy-fertile men, which can be valuable for managing reproductive and general male health.
