Active sacroiliitis and sacroiliac joint dysfunction are prevalent conditions that contribute significantly to low back pain, adversely affecting patients’ quality of life and leading to disability worldwide. Musculoskeletal ultrasound has emerged as a valuable tool for diagnosing these conditions, allowing clinicians to easily visualize the sacroiliac joints and assess various pathological issues, particularly in their dorsal regions. This imaging technique not only enhances the understanding of joint anatomy and biomechanics but also facilitates the execution of effective injective procedures designed to alleviate symptoms and improve patient well-being.
In this paper, we aim to provide a concise guide for musculoskeletal sonographers regarding the anatomy and function of the sacroiliac joints, emphasizing the correct ultrasound scanning methods necessary for optimal visualization. A detailed explanation of the ultrasound-guided injection techniques will also be included, enabling clinicians to address the challenges of diagnosing and managing sacroiliac joint pain in daily practice. Through this educational approach, we hope to empower healthcare professionals with the knowledge and skills required to perform these procedures confidently, ultimately leading to improved patient outcomes. By leveraging the advantages of musculoskeletal ultrasound, clinicians can better diagnose and treat sacroiliac joint conditions, fostering enhanced quality of life for affected individuals.
