Summary
Ultrasound-guided transversus abdominis plane (TAP) block reduces morphine requirements after Caesarean delivery.
In a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial, researchers evaluated the analgesic efficacy of the ultrasound (US)-guided TAP block in patients undergoing Caesarean delivery. They found that the US-guided TAP block reduced morphine requirements and improved satisfaction with pain relief compared to the placebo group. There were no local complications attributable to the TAP block.
These findings suggest that the US-guided TAP block can be an effective component of a multimodal analgesic regimen for postoperative pain relief in patients undergoing Caesarean delivery.
